Patrick Roy - Colorado
Avalanche Roy decided two months ago that if he was going to be the
number one man in net for Team Canada at the Salt Lake City games, then it
wasn't worth his while to even participate. So arguably one of the league's
best goaltender's turned his back on his native country, because of his
ego.
Wayne Gretzky and the rest of Canada exacted a bit of revenge by
capturing the gold medal on Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 victory over the United
States.
It seems that Roy probably would have seen action after Curtis
Joseph ran into some problems against the Swedes during pool play. Pat Quinn
yanked Cujo in favor of Martin Brodeur after the loss to Sweden.
Roy has
Stanley Cups, Vezina Trophies and lots of other achievements under his blet,
but he doesn't have a gold medal. That will forever be his legacy. |
