Brendan Shanahan - Detroit
Red Wings Shanahan was fined $1,000 for mocking referee Shane Heyer on
November 2nd after the Detroits 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders.
The penalty, the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement,
came after Shanahan received a gross misconduct for flipping Heyer the puck
after the horn, as if giving him the game puck, then clapping his gloves and
smiling.
"I guess I was gross," Shanahan told the Detroit Free Press
in reference to the call. "I wasn't really happy with the calls that we were
getting in the third period, I wasn't happy with the call he gave me."
Heyer had called Shanahan for slashing with one minute left; the
referees hadn't called anything after a high stick cut Shanahan's left cheek.
Shanahan was upset the Wings were called for four penalties in the third period
of a one-goal game between the league's top teams.
