LGS NHL Power Rankings
for games thru 1/22/23
/23/2023 - By LGS Staff
The staff writers at LetsGoSharks.com submit their league rankings each week, and we average submissions for each team. Here are the LGS NHL Power Rankings for this week:

Rank Rank Last Week Team Record Last 10 The Skinny
1 37-5-4 9-1-0 Nice scheduling - Sharks have to play second game of back-to-backs against Bruins while the B’s are well-rested.
2 29-9-8 5-3-2 Canes are neck and neck with the Devils atop the Metropolitan Conference. Could go either way. Pacioretty is injured AGAIN.
5 30-12-4 7-1-2 Devils are far better on the road (18-2-2) on the road than home (12-10-2). Maybe it’s that long tradition of weak fan support in New Jersey? Remember when the Devils almost moved to Nashville immediately after winning the Stanley Cup in 1995?
3 31-16-1 7-3-0 Rick Bowness is showing why he's been an NHL coach for so long.
4 29-15-1 6-4-0 6 wins in 10 will get you lowered in the rankings when you sit in the top 10.
9 28-11-8 5-3-2 It will be interesting to see what the Leafs do at the deadline. They are not a complete team, but are a coupl eof pieces away.
6 27-14-5 7-2-1 Did anybody expect Seattle to be this good so soon after an expansion-level (losing) first year in the league?
7 28-13-7 5-4-1 Stars sure laid an egg against the Sharks last week, giving up 5 unanswered goals.
11 25-14-7 6-2-2 14 our of last 20 points is good, but Rangers need to make a push in February and March.
8 29-17-2 5-5-0 Injuries and thei early cap hail mary is starting to expose the Knights. Fans are also starting to get impatient with Jack Eichel's slump.
15 27-18-3 7-2-1 The roller coaster Oilers starting to make people believe again, but will they sustain it?
10 26-17-6 5-5-0 The Kings looked like real contenders in December, but a mediocre January is starting to raise questions on Todd McLellan's leadership abilities.
14 25-16-4 5-3-2 Mid-pack Wild just not the team to wow anybody right now. They're not bad, but they need to be great to make a push.
18 25-17-3 6-4-0 Landeskog really meant a lot to this team and without him they might not make the playoffs )
12 25-18-6 4-5-1 The Ovi milestone hangover means nobody is paying much attention to the Caps, and for good reason.
13 22-16-9 5-3-2 Rumors abound about Darryl SUtter's toxic locker room. It will be interesting to see how the players respond.
19 23-15-8 4-4-2 Sid "The Kid" Crosby is now 35 years old, believe it or not.
23 23-20-5 7-2-1 Panthers are starting to look like last season, going 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.
17 23-19-3 5-4-1 Another also-ran that can never draw the necessary talent to compete. If Winnipeg can do it, so can Buffalo, but not with the leadership leading this stalled ship.
21 22-18-6 6-4-0 Signs of life coming out of Nashville, but this team still has a lot of work to do to get back into the playoff race.
20 23-21-3 6-4-0 Blues still might be a seller at the trade deadline, too much salary and too many holes in that lineup
16 23-20-5 2-5-3 Isles are slip, slidin' away, losing 5 in a row and 9 of their last 10.
22 20-21-7 6-4-0 Flyers' decent play of late has been overshadowed by the Ivan Provorov jersey controversy. A relatively unknown player is now one of the best-known players in the world.
25 19-18-8 3-6-1 The Red Wings were a flash in the pan in the first half of the season, but they're starting to show their true colors.
24 20-23-3 4-6-0 Could Erik Karlsson be traded back to Ottawa? How about the player we gave up for him (Josh Norris) and the player resulting from the draft pick we gave them (Tim Stutzle) in return?
27 20-24-3 5-5-0 If the Montreal press is critical of the Habs, we wouldn't know. We don't speak French!
26 18-25-3 2-8-0 Bruce Boudreau lost his job to, Rick Tocchet???? Is that a clever way to get players to waive no-trade clauses??
29 14-27-4 6-4-0 The Hawks are letting Bedard slip through their fingers with all this winning of late. With Toews and Kane likely trade deadline fodder, the Hawks will need a new face of the franchise.
28 14-25-9 3-5-2 Strong games against Dallas and New Jersey, total disinterest against Anaheim and Columbus. Lots of jobs will be open on this roster come September. The major suspense with this team is where will Timo Meier be traded.
30 13-29-5 3-6-1 Still a bad team with little to play for other than draft position.
31 15-27-5 2-8-0 Arizona has won 2 of their last 10 and things are so bad, they couldn't even call on Rick Toccet to help.
32 14-30-2 3-7-0 Took a bite out of the Sharks!
