Pacific Division Power Rankings
#8 Zen Reflections Edition
Well, here we are approaching the end of the
regular season, and for some teams that means the golf game should soon be
getting a serious workout. However, while some clubs are counting down the last
miserable days of the schedule, others are gearing up for what they hope will
be a long run of Spring-time hockey. This holds true of the Pacific division,
where it appears that less than half of the teams will qualify for the
postseason. As the pressure ramps up, staying calm and fighting through
distractions will be the key - especially if you happen to be the fan of a team
that is crashing is burning out of the race.
With that in mind, what
better way is there to stay calm and balanced than to embrace one of the time
honoured Zen Buddhist traditions of poetry; in particular the haiku! After all,
if it can help you reach a state of inner calm on the road to Enlightenment,
than calming a nervous hockey player (or fan) should be a piece of cake.
#1 - Anaheim Ducks
It's hard to find fault,
With a club that leads the West
And has all season.
They
are the elite,
And won't be an easy out.
These Ducks are for
real.
Last Ranking: 1
#2 - Calgary Flames
Tiny fists of icy rage*,
That's what Johnny Hockey has!
Scores
goals every game.
The whole team is clutch.
Dismiss them
at your peril.
They'd prefer you did.
Last Ranking:

#3 - Vancouver Canucks
No Ryan Miller?
The Sedin twins are washed up?
Rookie Coach? That's cool.
Sitting all pretty,
Van City's a playoff lock.
Who's doubting
them still?
Last Ranking: 2
#4 - Los Angeles
King
Last year's Champs look spent,
Too many miles on
them. Now
Each games a must win.
Still, if they make
it
Everyone will cower. Who
Wants to play the Kings?
Last Ranking: 3
#5 - San Jose Sharks
Soft goals, bad
defense,
No scoring, angry Joe Thornton.
Playoff push? It's
over.
Changes on the way,
Doug Wilson soon unemployed.
Dark times ahead, folks!
Last Ranking: 5
#6 -
Edmonton Oilers
Better efforts, the
Emergence of Yak and
Nuge!
Good coaching as well.
Could it be there's
light
At the end of the tunnel?
Or just more false hope?
Last Ranking: 6
#7 - Arizona Coyotes
Losing costs nothing.
Other than pride and respect.
They'll
lose Tippett too!
Playing out the stretch,
They're all in
for McDavid
Will anyone care?
Last Ranking: 7
*Yes, that is too many syllables. But the phrase "Tiny fists of icy rage" just
needed to be used.
