McLaren scratched
Rugged defenseman can't answer the bell in Game 2
5/11/04 - by Mike Lee

Sharks defenseman Kyle McLaren was scratched from Game 2 of the Sharks Western Conference Finals match up with the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night. The Sharks announced that McLaren suffered an upper body injury and was unavailable for Tuesday night's contest. McLaren's absence was felt during the 4-1 drubbing, as the Flames scored all their goals with little defensive opposition.

Rookie defensemen Rob Davison and Tom Preissing suited up for the Sharks, but neither had a hand in any of the Flames first three goals. Preissing was on the ice for Jerome Iginla's 3rd period tally, but the game was well out of had by that point.

Davison recorded his first career playoff point, when he assisted on Alyn McCauley's goal in the 2nd period.

San Jose could have used McLaren's rough and tumble style of play. the Flames dictated most fo the game and skated freely without much concern for the Sharks chances of landing any big hits.

McLaren's status was unknown following the game.
