Our weekly selection of
hockey moves that leave us scratching our heads. Started back in 2007, HotW was
an institution around these parts or years. As research time became more
scarce, we let it lapse, but by the grace of a Gordie Hull Hat Trick, it's
back!
We don't recommend that any of these feats be attempted at home,
nor do we suggest that you you these fine folks as role models for your
children.

Russian Hockey Fans Leave it
to a third world country like Russia to have fans creative enough to celebrate
a goal by lighting off a smoke bomb in a hockey rink. Hey, even Russia's
current favorite son, Alexander Ovechkin was on hand to ingest some of the
toxins dispersed throughout the arena. Ovechkin was in Russia to be with his
ailing grandfather...and take in a hockey game apparently
The fun
started at the KHL game between Dynamo Moscow and Ak Bars Kazan. Dynamo's
Aleksei Badyukov tied the game at 1-1 late in the 1st period, and the
celebration began.
Smoke began to fill the arena, but players adjourned
to the locker room during the 1st intermission. Before the game could resume,
KHL officials suspended play because of the health risk it posed...to the
players. Fans be damned! After all they started it, didn't they?
Ovechkin was filmed watching the festivities with a look of puzzled
bewilderment on his face.
