Our weekly selection of
hockey moves that leave us scratching our heads. Started back in 2007, HotW was
an institution around these parts or years. As research time became more
scarce, we let it lapse, but by the grace of a Gordie Hull Hat Trick, it's
back!
We don't recommend that any of these feats be attempted at home,
nor do we suggest that you you these fine folks as role models for your
children.

Manny Legace - St Louis
Blues Legace failted to heed warnings about the special red carpet that
was being rolled out for Vice Presidential hopeful Sarah Palin at last Friday
night's Blues game agsint the visiting Los Angeles Kings. The hockey mom turned
politico was in St Louis to drop the ceremonial first puck, which is typically
accompanied by a carpet because the VIP dropping the puck rarely has skates
on.
As the first person on the ice before the puck drop, Legace landed
on the carpet after hopping from the Blues bench. He lost his footing and fell,
before gingerly skating to the goal crease.
The netminder lasted a
period before bowing out to what he's described as a strained hip-flexor.
"I went to go step on the ice and the (Scottrade Center security) guy
goes, 'Watch the carpet,' and he had his foot there holding it, so I figured it
would be safe to step on," Legace said. "If he's holding it and I figured the
other end's pretty much secure, I was just worrying about the carpet slipping
(forward). As soon as I went to step down, he took his foot off the carpet. As
soon as I stepped on the carpet, the carpet just shot out and my leg kept going
and my other one was still on the bench. I felt it pull right
away."
Legace missed the Blues game on Saturday, and isn't expected back
on the ice for at least a week.
It'll be hard to ever top "strained
hip-flexor, incurred by carpet". In fact we think any future injury that Legace
sustains in his career will Palin comparison.
As for Palin's role in the
whole thing?
"She's been pretty good for our game," Legace said. "I'm
starting to like her more and more. No grudge."
