It's all business when dad's around

A year ago, Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson gave his team a tongue lashing on the team bus after his players laid an egg on the first leg of their annual "Fathers Trip". San Jose treats each player and that player's father with a road trip as a team bonding exercise once during the regular season, and last year didn't start off so well. As the Sharks prepare to embark on this year's trip, the Sharks treated their dads to a goal-fest and a 5-2 win over the Dallas Stars at HP Pavilion on Thursday night.

No post All Star Game hangover for SJ

The post All Star Game portion of the season kicked off on Tuesday night with the Sharks unloading on the doormat Columbus Blue Jackets at HP Pavilion. San Jose put 6 pucks past Columbus netminder Steve Mason in a long overdue blowout. Antti Niemi made 30 saves to earn back-to-back saves for the first time this season in the 6-0 white-washing.

Couture set to receive plenty of grief

How crazy was that NHL All Star Game Draft. Sharks forward Logan Couture earned the dubious distinction of being drafted last of the 38 players taken. Unofficially, Couture wasn't really drafted. He was the fat kid that was left standing out on the school yard who ended up landing on a team because nobody else wanted him. OK, so it wasn't that bad, but don't think that Couture hasn't heard the last of his misfortune.

Senators impose one goal limit

One of the things San Jose hoped for in acquiring Brent Burns, was to step up their offensive production by the blueline. They got a lesson in how to involve the defense in the scoring on Thursday night as the visiting Ottawa Senators rolled to a 4-1 win over San Jose at HP Pavilion. The Senators defensive corps leads the league in scoring from that position, something the Sharks may want to focus on as the stretch run to the playoffs approaches.

Sharks overcome bad call to beat Flames

Any sport that requires officials will invariably have instances of bad officiating. Bad calls can result in injustices that aren't always fair. Then there are times when a bad situation rights itself and all is right in the world. The Sharks overcame one of those situations on Tuesday night to defeat the visiting Calgary Flames 2-1 in the shootout at HP Pavilion.

Sharks return to Winnipeg

The last time the Sharks played in Winnipeg, Bill Clinton was still President of the United States and the internet was this cool new technology. It's been 15 years since San Jose braved the arctic temperatures of Manitoba in January, but the Atlanta Thrashers folded up shop and migrated north for the winter. The Sharks used their return to the "Peg" on Thursday night as a chance to reintroduce themselves and get back in the win column, beating the host Jets 2-0.
