The Sharks used a barrage of power play goals to fend off the Chicago Blackhawks in a good old Western Conference shootout on Sunday night in the Windy City. San Jose converted on 4-of-6 extra man chances, including a Devin Setoguchi goal with 4:15 in regulation to escape with a 6-5 win. San Jose had to overcome a one-goal deficit in the 3rd period to extend their lead in the conference.

Rebounds were the theme of the night on Thursday at HP Pavilion. The Sharks rebounded from their 2-game losing streak with a 6-1 pounding of the visiting Calgary Flames. They scored four of those goals on the power play after Calgary gave up big juicy rebounds. Milan Michalek rebounded from a scoring drought by scoring a pair of goals. The Sharks defense set a franchise record by tallying 9 points, all assists. The trio of Dan Boyle, Rob Blake and Christian Ehrhoff each had three helpers.

The Sharks started a new streak on Tuesday night. A losing streak. For the first time this season, San Jose dropped consecutive games. Their 4-3 overtime loss to the visiting Nashville Predators snapped their franchise record 9-game winning streak to open the season. Predators goaltender Dan Ellis stopped 54 shots to stump the Sharks, who blew two leads in the game.

The Professor left his mark

It's hard to believe that it's been 16 years since the Sharks plucked a gangly centerman name Igor Larionov off the NHL waiver draft. The Russian forward was a legend in international hockey circles, yet here he was, available to a struggling expansion team for the taking. Larionov would go on to win three Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings, but his mark on hockey in the Bay Area forced the Sharks to rethink how they approached the game.
