HISTORY
Drafted first overall in 1990 by the Quebec Nordiques. Played the first five years of his career in Quebec before the Nordiques moved to Colorado in 1995. Enjoyed 70+ point seasons in his second and third seasons in the NHL.

Missed all but six games in 1994-95 due to injuries. Returned for the 1995-96 season and recorded his third 30+ goal season as a member of the Nordiques. Also recorded three hat tricks that season.

Nine games into the 1995-96 season, the Colorado Avalanche traded Nolan to San Jose in exchange for Sandis Ozolinsh. Led the Sharks that season in goals, assists, points, power play goals and shots.

Turned in another strong season in 1996-97, scoring 31 goals and recording 32 assists. Played in the 1997 All Star Game at San Jose Arena and nearly walked away as the game MVP with a three goal performance, including his infamous "called shot" against Domink Hasek. The shot earned him an ESPN "Espy" nomination that year.

His 84 point performance (44 goals, 40 assists) in 1999-2000 stands as a Sharks team record. His all out performance in the 2000 NHL Playoffs earned him the moniker "Captain Courageous", after playing a majority of the series with St Louis and Dallas with a torn abdominal muscle.

Named the Sharks fifth team captain in franchise history on October 28th, 1998. Nicknamed "Buster". Represented Canada at the 1997 World Championships (gold medal).

SCOUTING REPORT
Owen has been a staple in San Jose since his acquisition from Colorado in 1995. A hard nosed player with skills and grit, Owen has defined the power forward position.

Isn't afraid to crash the net and score the ugly goal. Will shoot from any angle, including from behind the goal line. Plays with an edge that can be compromised if you get under his skin.

AWARDS and RECOGNITION
NHL All Star (1992, 1996, 1997 and 2000)
Sharks Most Valuable Player (2000)
