| HISTORY |
Dan McGillis was
originally drafted 238th overall in the 1992 Entry Draft by the Detroit Red
Wings. On March 20, 1996, his rights were traded to the Edmonton Oilers for
Kirk Maltby. The following season, Dan made his NHL debut on October 4 with an
assist against the Sabres. On November 26, he scored his first goal against the
Flames. That rookie season, Dan scored 22 points in 73 games and helped the
Oilers reach the playoffs for the first time in five years. In the playoffs, he
scored five points in 12 games as the Oilers reached the second round.
In 1997-98, Dan was traded on March 24 with a second-round draft pick
to the Philadelphia Flyers for Janne Niinimaa. In 80 games between the two
teams, Dan scored 11 goals and 31 points. In 1998-99, Dan played 78 games and
scored 37 assists and 45 points. He also knocked 220 hits, blocked 71 shots and
posted a +16 plus/minus rating. In 1999-2000, Dan scored 18 points in 68 games
as the team won the Altantic Division title.
Dan once again posted a
+16 rating but this time tallied 264 hits and 63 blocked shots. In the
playoffs, he scored eight points as the Flyers reached the Eastern Conference
finals before losing to the Devils. In 2000-01, Dan led his team with 207 shots
and 292 hits as the Flyers cracked the 100-point mark for the second straight
year. He led all team defencemen with 35 assists and 49 points and won the
